Despite repeated clean Imunify360 malware scans, confirmation from the hosting provider that no malware or phishing activity exists, and the fact that the website contains no login systems, payment systems, or phishing forms, the domain is still currently being flagged through VirusTotal by AVG and approximately ten other security vendors as phishing or malicious.
As a result, I found myself caught between multiple automated systems operating simultaneously: cybersecurity reputation algorithms, anti-spam systems, domain trust systems, and social media moderation algorithms all interacting with each other in real time. That is what made this entire experience so mentally exhausting and emotionally difficult.
The original #Facebook post I shared was made entirely in good faith and focused on documenting and transparently discussing this legitimate cybersecurity false-positive situation. However, the post was removed by Meta’s automated systems, later restored after appeal, then removed again simply after I interacted with it using a like/thumbs-up reaction. That forced me to spend even more time and energy repeatedly trying to explain myself to overlapping automated systems.
Today I finally received confirmation again that Meta restored the post and acknowledged that the technology had made a mistake by taking it down. I genuinely appreciate that the review process eventually corrected the decision, because it shows that human review and human judgment still matter enormously in an increasingly automated digital world.
At the same time, this experience made me reflect deeply on the future relationship between AI moderation systems and human beings. Recently I watched the trailer for the film “MERCY,” where an AI-controlled justice system determines guilt automatically and gives someone only ninety minutes to defend themselves before execution. While this is fictional entertainment, this entire experience gave me a small glimpse into how overwhelming and powerless it can feel when automated systems repeatedly classify legitimate behavior as suspicious while a real human being struggles to be heard behind the algorithms.
