In an exclusive interview with Daniela Cambone, David Webb, the author of The Great Taking, delves into his early financial career in New York City. He shares insights into how his journey in finance led him to uncover the profound financial upheaval following the Asian financial crisis, a narrative that unfolds in his book The Great Taking. “For a long time, I understood the privileged position of the people behind the central banks and their ability to control everything through creating money out of nothing,” he states. Furthermore, he explains that the “elites” exert their control by means of warfare. “When we go back through history, we can see that the central banking power is joined at the hip with warfare, and it always has been,” he explains. In my journey, I developed a unique approach to predicting financial market movements by analyzing the money supply growth rate changes, driven by the New York Fed’s open market operations. Observing a collapsing money velocity during the Dotcom Bubble, I foresaw an impending major depression and potential global conflict well before 9/11.

I created a diversified short-side trading strategy, focusing on hundreds of weak positions, dubbed “the cream of the crap,” while maintaining a concentrated long side. This involved a specialized trading desk and a team technique to manage over 350 positions simultaneously, providing real-time market sensitivity and liquidity utilization without causing market disruption. The desk functioned like a newsroom, constantly researching and responding to developments, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of each position and the broader market.

I emphasized the power of the intuitive mind, correctly informed and continuously tested by the rational mind, to make swift, informed decisions. This approach required rigorous due diligence, questioning assumptions, and directly engaging with primary sources to gain accurate insights. My success was not from a secret algorithm but a way of thinking and deep understanding, resulting in a 258% net return during the Dotcom bust, significantly outperforming major indices.

Despite encountering challenges, including government disinformation and market manipulation, I maintained a commitment to integrity and responsibility, always prioritizing clients and ethical conduct. My work eventually led to insights into the early onset of Quantitative Easing and the vulnerabilities in the financial system, ultimately aiming to protect people from the inevitable market busts.
